Homework Term 1 Week 1 2017

 Term 1 Week 1 2017
Welcome back to the new school year, and welcome to room 4!
I look forward to working with you and your child during 2017.

During the next few weeks, the children will be learning the routines and expectations of their new classroom.  It is always a busy time of the year but a very productive time also.  It is also a busy time for testing spelling and basic facts in maths during the first few weeks.

Miss Amanda Evans is a 3rd year Candidate Teacher working towards her Bachelor of Primary Teaching degree.  She is spending this week in room 4 and will return in week 5 to teach in room 4.  This week is a great opportunity for her to get to know the students and learn how teachers begin the school year.

Teachers will be testing reading vocabulary, reading comprehension, maths knowledge and strategy, spelling, and undertake assessment in writing during the term.  This gives us very important information about your child and their learning strengths and needs.

Remember we have an “open door” policy at St Mary’s School.  If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to come and talk to me.

You are welcome to come to the classroom at any time, or contact the office and they will leave me a message and I will get back to you.  Alternatively you are able to email the office and they will forward your email to me.  I am happy to be emailed directly.

You are also welcome to come to the classroom and look at your child’s work.  This is an opportunity for your child to share what they are learning.
·       Homework for Week 1 – Please read for 10 minutes + your age every day.  Students in room 4 are creating Heart Maps.  These heart maps contain photos, magazine clippings or pictures about each student.  Students have been asked to collect some photos about themselves and their family, magazine or newspaper clippings that reflect something about them, or draw pictures about themselves to glue onto their heart map.  This is a great way of getting to know each other and it can be useful for writing.  The Heart Map will be laminated and returned to students at the end of the year.
·       Next week’s homework will be posted on the room 4-class blog.

Tracey Smith
