  Basic Facts
Practise
these every night.  Be ready for
  testing.

Come and see
Mrs. Smith if you are ready sooner.

Please do not be concerned if your child is starting
on a level lower than they finished last year.  This is normal.

Click on
“Maths Basic Facts” on the class blog. Your child should know what step they
are on.  If they have forgotten,
they’ll need to check the maths basic facts ladder in class.

TIPS
  and LEARNING SUPPORT
●
  Studyladder
can be used for reading, spelling and maths. Your own username and password
will be given to you soon.
●
  Memory
games help children to remember basic facts and help with recall
  of facts. |

I will be testing spelling words
during this week.  All students will
have spelling words for homework next week.

Spelling words for each week may come from
group spelling testing, incorrect words from children’s working books, topic
words, words that teach spelling patterns and rules, and the dictionary.

A BIG thank you to those students who brought their photos, magazine
cuttings, pictures, titles etc for their Heart Maps last week.
However, there were a
number of students who were not prepared so we were unable to do this
activity as a whole class.  I have
spoken to the students and explained it is THEIR responsibility to get what
they need.  Please make sure you have what you need on Friday please. |
© READING
Read for 10
minutes + your age every night.
Remember the more you read, the better you’ll get!  Variety is important also.

Choose from a
range of different texts such as newspapers, fiction (make-believe),
non-fiction (true), journals and chapter books.

Students in
room 4 are welcome to take home a school journal to read.  School journals are excellent because they
contain a range of different genres (writing types).

It is also helpful to develop skills in
  reading aloud too.
➔      Can you
  read with expression?
➔      Can you
stop and take a breath at punctuation?

➔      Can you
read at a pace that is not too fast or too slow?

Read aloud to someone once or twice a
  week.

Ask your listener for feedback … |
